Schools:
Zwartberg
High School (Afrikaans) began in 1899 with a handful of children and has
grown to 360 pupils ranging from Grades 1 to 12. There is also
a private pre-school (which includes Grade R) on the
premises. We are the only
high school in a 100km radius. Our Grade 12 class averages 40
learners each year. We are very proud of the fact that in the past 25
years we have only had 2 students not pass Grade 12!
In
2001 we received the Education Department's Award for the Most
Improved Racially Intergrated
School. Currently our Gr 3 Systemic Evaluation averages 90%!
Our Gr 1 to 7 classes' CAMI Mathematics achieved the 2nd highest
score in the
Southern Cape. We are very proud of our 6 Junior Karate Springboks who
competed in Namibia
in August 2009.
We
are situated in the "Beaufort West Poverty Nodal Area" and
only 18% of our learners are able to pay school fees.
Despite this, we still maintain a high standard of academic,
cultural and sporting curriculae.
Our beautiful
gabled school buildings form a part of Prince Albert's renowned heritage. 90 Learners are housed in our
school hostel, behind which we have agricultural land that is
cultivated to produce onion and carrot seed as a
fund-raising initiative. Here in the
Karoo, we certainly live by the adage - " 'n Boer maak 'n plan!"
